The High Desert Botanical Garden: A project of the High Desert Horticultural Center in Bend, Oregon

Make it a reality

Dream it.

It all begins with an idea. We began thinking about a botanical garden for the east side of the mountains about 15 years ago and it’s finally time to make that vision a reality. We envision a garden that showcases the amazing diversity of plant associations and floral communities found in the High Desert — everything from forests to grasslands, and cold deserts to wetlands.

Build it.

Now that we’ve identified a location and have established a partnership with the Bend Parks and Recreation District to start planning a garden, we need to get to work. Planning, design, and the public involvement process requires an amazing amount of work, money, and public support. All this must be done before we can begin to put shovels in the ground and dirt under our fingernails. But with your help, we’re on the way to making a regional botanical garden a reality!

Grow it.

The growth of the High Desert Botanical Garden is a long-term investment by the High Desert Horticultural Center, the Parks and Recreation District, and city, county, and state stakeholders. But you are the primary driver of this local resource — interested people with a passion for ecology, beauty, and native plants — all outstanding qualities of the High Desert region. As the garden grows over time, so will the reputation and recognition of Bend and central Oregon as drivers of eco-based tourism and environmental sustainability.
