Ecology

Many people traveling through the High Desert don’t take the opportunity to stop and look at the amazing diversity of plants in the sparsely populated parts of the region. But the detail and sheer number of different species in these seemingly desolate areas can be staggering.

The High Desert floristic region includes deserts and canyons, forests and wetlands, high mountain peaks and alkali flats — each containing their own unique plants that reflect the environmental and ecological conditions of those areas. In many ways, the High Desert is more botanically rich than most of the other parts of the state.

The High Desert Botanical Garden is designed to highlight the floristic diversity of this incredible region, and will serve as a regional resource for education and inspiration. Join us in making the High Desert Botanical Garden a reality!
