Sustainable Communities
The High Desert Botanical Garden provides an opportunity to develop an understanding and appreciation of the High Desert’s native vegetation, but equally important are the examples of regenerative landscaping, ecology-based design, stormwater capture and reuse, and sustainable architecture included in the fully-accessible garden.
Fully functional regenerative landscapes, and the educational programs offered at the Garden contribute to the expansion of sustainable communities through example. The theory, methods, and techniques presented at the HDBG directly support Bend and Redmond’s efforts to reduce resource dependency in landscapes (primarily water), but will contribute to the spread of responsible landscaping practices throughout the region.
